big compression

just curious if anyone has any experience with this. I'm looking to run 13.75-14:1 compression with D0VE's on VP.. 110 or 112 octane. i know the D0VE's can be troublesome with compression or am i better off runnin Methanol.

I've been running 14:1 for years with DOVE and iron CJ heads and have always used Sunoco Supreme that is 112 octane. I run my timing at 32 degrees and have never had any signs of detonation.

especially with Iron heads DO NOT try to run 110 over 13:1. I don't know why it's such a big change between the 110 race fuel and the 112 but even with Alum heads at 13.4:1 I was having slight detonation issues with 110 even though they claim it's good to 14:1. I run a real conservative tune and yet there was teh signs of detonation, switch to 112 and even tightened up the tune considerably and still no problems.
Other then that there is absolutely no problem running high compression with the factory iron heads D0VE included on race gas. The only trouble with D0VE heads and compression is for the guys wanting to stay on pump gas, then it can get tricky keeping the compression low enough but race gas engine not a big deal.

thanks alot guys. thinkin of doin a big class change. either gotta go real big to stay competitave or jump ship to 4x4's low class is iron head alum intake, with one assoc. limit 480ci, on gas only, other assoc is 520 limit gas or alcohol. i'd like to be able to go pull at both if at all possible. i have a .040 over 429 that has very few miles on it.. i pulled the heads to see as it was supposed to be a stroker..it wasnt. but the price was right nevertheless. machine work is still real fresh.. so thinkin of droppin the 429 stuff and goin to my inventory 460 crank(leftover from the stroker) i see it as really a cheap build. relatively speaking. the stroker kinda leaves me in limbo as its only 514. i can run it in a truck but only at the assoc. i can leave it in the tractor and pull at both, be competitave at one and get my *** handed to me at the other. i dont mind not winning but it would be nice to at least have somewhere close to a level playing field. the 514 iron head i know is not gonna compete with 575 ci aluminum head injected motors.
