Custom Tuning X4

Does anyone have experience with custom tuning used on the SCT X4? I don't want a tire shredding tune, I'm just looking to gain a little MPG. I know the SCT canned tunes are a general tunes so I'm not really interested in running them. I contacted Gearhead which i had for my 6.0 and they do not offer tunes for the X4. I am looking for one tune a daily driver/ towing. I did multiple searches and came up with little information.

Are you looking to delete, or keep emissions present? For delete, I used tunes from Rudy's Diesel Performance on an SCT-X4 and have been very happy with them. Mine came with "Tow", "Street" and "Performance". I loaded street and have kept it there.

I also got mine from Rudy's. They come with Punch It Performance (PIP) tunes. Reading on other forums, it sounds like Gearhead does make tunes for the X4. You might get with Mike at No Limit Fab. Pretty sure he can get Gearhead tunes. If not, maybe it's a model year thing? Mine's an '11.

Just so you know I talked to them about the 4 custom tunes and they told me I would see best millage out of the extreme tune. They were right that's for sure. So far I am at 5.2 mpg gain over stock. I don't drive it any different then I did when it was stock. Says the tune is 150hp and 321ft of torque.

I know the most efficient tune is the extreme, but I also know that I will play with whatever power I have, so I have resisted the urge to try that tune out. I don't want to risk tickets, or damage to my tires!

Yea I know the feeling. Ordered the egr delete the other day and also the egt sensor for my Edge insight. Now have to get up the nerve to try and not break any bolts in the removal process. Sure would like to be able to see the Temps again espically being tuned.

My plans for a possible EGR delete are on hold for a while. I may or may not eventually get to it. The bolts are my only fear, and the only reason why I have not yet tackled it. Good luck with yours!

Going to talk to my mechanic buddy see what's the best way to go about this. He says if they break it not really a big deal. He's had it happen before.

Professional assistance would be nice. I don't have the tools or a spare vehicle to handle any broken EGR bolts.

To the OP: 5-Star makes a great daily driver in their Daily Tow tune. Since installing it, it has fixed things about stock shifting that I didn't like, improved my fuel mileage and extended my regens from about 350 miles to over 500 miles. They also have a Performance tune as well. 5-Star doesn't try to get the maximum out of their tunes, but tune on the conservative side for safety and great driving experience.

Actually.... You just gotta know the right people Im running gearhead through my X4. Contact Mike at No Limit Fab he'll hook you up.

I love this forum but its not the place for these types of questions, one day at powerstroke.org and I had all my questions answered and tunes were paid for on the second! Within a week of joining I was running a gearhead tune

And yes best mileage by 1-2 mpgs has been the RACE tune that came with the X4, thats the only one that worked of the canned tunes, after deleting. Smoky neck snapping awesomeness that would get 21-23 on the hw, hand calculated.

Lie o meter was always 2 mpgs off with that tune, always within a tenth before deleting, gearhead tunes, the lie o meter is .5 mpgs worse then actual.
