2002 explorer / cannot link computer w / scan tool
Hello,
I'm new to this website and thought it would be a great place to get information from some of the forums I read. I have a 02 (5/01) explorer with the 4.0L (E) engine. I have a check engine light on and cannot link a diagnostic scan tool to the computer to read the codes. I tried three different types and brands of scan tools with the same results. They all do power up and try to link but all come back stating link error. I checked all the fuses under the dash with a test light and all light up and test fine, anyone experience the same thing and if so, what did you find? Any help would surely be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
sorj

Does the truck otherwise seem to run fine, and is the check engine light on solid or is it flashing?
If the scan tools do not have internal batteries and they are powering up, the fuses should be good for the diagnostic connector and power is getting to OBD-II connector pin 16. Similarly the grounds on pins 4 and 5 are apparently okay. But you'll want to make sure the terminals in locations 2, 10, and 13 are populated and that those wires appear to be in good shape and haven't been snagged by someone working under the dash.
