Does anyone have photos of the factory "bright bed rails" listed in the sales brochure? Alternately maybe someone can tell me if what I have are "factory". There is no markings, ford logos, or part numbers anywhere on them. They look good but the center 2 mounts/bolts have a rectangular tube that seems to sit on the slight ridge that is on the bed top and has a small gap. Could be a mounting pad that is worn or missing(?). The reason I am asking is they are rusty and I would like to get them re-chromed. There is only one shop left in town that does chroming. The guy there quoted me a really high price and said buy some aftermarket aluminum ones. If they are factory or (dealer installed Ford) I want to keep them on the truck. If they were added later or are just old aftermarket, I can probably let them go. If they are factory I can look for NOS (maybe), used (but not rusty) or look at sending them to another shop if the cost of shipping or driving works out. I can get photos of the rails themselves if it helps, they are off the truck. Thanks.
Well that is interesting. The truck box looks to be pre 1980 in the illustration. Not that that is necessarily relevant. Mine do not go in the stake pockets and mount with studs and nuts drilled through the bed top. So they are definitely not the same as the ones in the illustration. That said I have seen photos on line of ones like mine that appear to be period correct if nothing else. Hopefully someone else can chime in with more info. Thanks Gary, I actually have your Garagemahal bookmarked, use it regularly, missed the bed rail page though.
I am surprised it costs so much since you live in Canada. Years ago I heard we were sending all the re-chroming to Canada after the EPA crackdown in the states. You guys must have had a crackdown also.
Not sure what happened. We had a number of shops a few years ago, wasn't too pricey when I had my mustang bumpers rechromed. I didn't know they were all closing. Even the one shop I found seems to be more into plastic bumper repairs. The next closest shop is 3 hours away. Probably a mix of environmental cost and retirement of owners.
You didn't miss anything - I just put it up to answer your question. I find that answering the question once via a web page that we can get back to is far better than answering it in a thread and never being able to find it again.
Further, the table section is made up of 9 individual screen shots where I cut out the entries for the E's and R's. (But not the 1987 and on pickups, Jim. ) But, doing that in a thread on FTE spaces the pictures apart so the continuity is lost.
the ones you have are close but not Ford rails. Im looking for a good set of used Ford rails myself. Dennis Carpenter sells them reproduced for 400 bucks! Im still looking
here are a couple pics. I had a 94 F150 with bed rails that look alot like your...they were not the Ford rais.
