They were made by Ford, 8' stepside box is a pretty rare setup.

They do exist.

Anybody know if toppers were ever made for these? I have seen shortbox Flaresides with toppers, but I haven't really seen a longbed Flareside before this one.

The Flareside was made in three lengths.

6.5' , 8' and 9' lengths.

Does anybody remember, know when the 9' length flareside was discontinued? I think it was 1972, but do not know for sure.

The 8' bed was made throughout the 1973-1979 run, but, the 6.5' flareside was not avaliable during certain years, before 1977.

Yes, 1972 for 9'. Maybe for 6.5, too. As you may recall, only the 1967/72 F350 2WD had the 9' Flareside. No styleside box. Ford discontinued the 9' Flareside because they changed the F350's wheelbase for the new body style in 1973 and for the super camper special wheelbase.

so how rare are they I found a guy that has 2 of them one a 77 2wd and the other is a 78 or 79 4wd. are they worth any more than a regular long bed. any other information would be great. are the frames the same width. the guy said that the 4wd was a heavy duty 3/4 ton. could this have a front 60 in it. have not had time to go and look at them.

Pretty uncommon. Flareside trucks never sold well. It's more common to find 1977/79 half-tonner Flareside trucks than the 8' Flareside.

Everything is the same, regardless the styleside/flareside bed.

Maybe. Only way to know is to get the codes off the front axle.

hey twisted...if you're looking for one, there's one for sale near me in Ontario. But be a long haul, but the price will be right. It's been sitting in the guys driveway for last 5 years.

Hey guys, does anyone know where a Step-Side long bed for a 79 pick up would be, preferably near Richmond, and most definitely in VA? I've looked but i can't find much.

UPDATE

Well I found my 8' stepside.............Its just a chevy bed off of a '72 C10. The bed itself is in good shape the only downside is the bed measures 8' 8" from bulkhead to tailgate my styleside measures 8'3" from bulkhead to tailgate..................got a 5" differance on the length where the bulkhead to the center of the wheel tubs is kinda close with in a 1/2" from the chev to the ford bed. Tthe extra length is in the rear behind the wheel tub..

My plan is to swap out the chevy tubs with ford wheel tubs then put on a "blank" chevy tailgate with the for lettering painted on the bed.................

Now a question for all that have a dent side............how long is your bed is it a true 8' or longer as my chev bed is...............
