I have been looking into putting an intercooler into my 89 f350 during my resto. My question is, how are you guys fitting them? A 1500$ kit is out of the question for me like the one from hypermax. I was planning on buying a used 6.0 intercooler and making my own pipes, but from what I can see I'd have to eliminate my a/c. Do you guys get rid of your a/c and extra tranny coolers? I have been tossing the idea of cutting my hood up some, adding a scoop or vents, and putting an intercooler on top of the engine like the H1 hummers. The radiator in this truck is definitely thicker than the one in my old parts truck so maybe that takes room away from the traditional intercooler location.
i used a 1000 cfm inner cooler, and deleted my AC.
spent 150 on the IC, and about 100 in clamps and boots.
i purchased mandrel 2.25" u bends from summit and made my own charge pipes.
for under 400 bucks it was done.
i also welded a piece of aluminum pipe to the turbo hat

Thanks!! Where did you get that intercooler at? And did you just find a used top hat? I was going to modify my banks sidewinder top hat but a factory turbo one would be a lot easier.
Lots of guys have installed intercoolers without deleting the AC. The IC is mounted in front. It's s tight fit and the 83-86 body style requires trimming the grill fins or going to a thinner billet grill, but it fits. The 7.3 SuperDuty units are more commonly used than the 6.0 units and are easier to fit. If you choose an aftermarket one be sure it is wide enough to straddle your radiator.
Thanks for the help guys! I will be installing this on an 89 and would like to keep my ac but living in Erie pa I only use ac 4 months out of the year.
