I hate to ask you guys off topic questions but I get a much better response than all the other sites I go to combined.

I'm looking to buy a 1086 4X4 tractor and wonder if they are good tractors still. I worked as a machinist years ago and still have the tools and access to equipment, therefor I'm not really worried about parts availability.
Tractor has 47XX hours and looks nice enough in the pics.
Any comments?

 

I think that's what my dad's neighbor has, though his might be older. They ran several ih tractors of that era and had good luck with them. The one that may be a 1086 sits most of the time now and has a noise from the water pump area that they want me to look at one day. All of their newer stuff is green and from what I've seen the deeres are better overall as far as ergonomics. My dad has a few 4020's and a 4220 or 30, can't remember. That's a big machine, what do you plan to do with it?

 

Push snow and pull the round baler. DOT will pay $162. an hr. My JX 1090 U grossed $38,000 in 2010 and $17,500. this past week with loader bucket. The asking price could be recouped in 1 year with money left (maybe) to add a Quikee loader.

 

That's what we needed for this last snow. I was in an industrial parking lot by myself with a pickup and a 8' straight plow. It will use a lot of fuel running the round baler though. Enclosed cab with ac is nice when'd running the baler too, is this an enclosed cab tractor?

 

If you were in Charles Town you had a bit more snow than we did. We trucked the newer tractor to No. Va. and did some work there.

 

Not a fan of the 1086 honestly. Rearends are prone to issues (same as 686), we have replaced the one in ours twice and the biggest workout it gets is pulling a disc. Seems underpowered for the amount of fuel it uses, but that might just be ours. The gauges and all associated wiring is HORRIBLE. I like IH tractors, damn near as much as 40/50 series Deeres (best tractors ever), but I would stay far far far away from that 1086. We have an 806, 686, 1256, and 1456 plus the 1086. I would consider all the other great tractors, wouldn't **** on the tire of the 10' if it was burning down.

 

This tractor is incredibly comfortable, easy to drive and looks very nice. I recommend it to everyone
