rad hose leak
Shortly after replacing my water pump I discovered a coolant leak where the lower rad hose connects to the water pump. The hose itself is also new and I did not see any visual defects on the hose so I would like to assume it's ok.
Now that it's winter and freezing cold out I decided this would be a good time to fix it. (please note my sarcasm)...
The leak looks like the hose clamp isn't tight enough but I can assure you I've clamped it tight enough not to leak. The water/coolant is coming out from between the hose and the hose barb.
Has anyone seen a leak like this before? It's more of a dribble than anything but I don't want it to turn into something bigger when I decided to put the cooling system under duress. My first thought was maybe the casting of the water pump had a defect not causing the hose to seal? Anyone see something like this before? Thoughts on a fix that don't involved a water pump replacement? I was debating if I could use a little of that permatex gasket sealer (the black creosote looking sticky stuff that comes in a can with a brush) around the hose barb and iside of the hose? Or maybe some RTV? Thoughts?
Thanks Much,.
What a dope I am. I used a nylon nipple, not thinking it would expand and contract, thus working itself loose enough to leak. I remember now I couldn't find a brass or steel one so I ran with the nylon one. Oh well, guess the tensioner needing replacement was a blessing in disguise (in more ways than one).
