ok i have a 2001 F-250 4x4 6.8 V-10 158,xxx miles auto transmission, keeps throwing P0720 and P0722 codes.... what its doing is intermittent when i come to a stop and go to take off overdrive light will start flashing on shift lever and tranny will slip hard and truck dies, or throttle will jump like its trying to sputter and die, or occasionally (w/OD light flashing) will take off fine and light will stop flashing when trnny shift through all gears..... also sometime when i go to turn off OD it will not shut off..... everything is fine if i am driving normally problem only occurs taking off from stop..... been dealing with this for a few months now have had it to 2 different shops for different periods of time.... what has been done i have changed the output shaft speed sensor (on top of tranny on rear) then done hard reset on PCM (disconnected battery) and while later shop for a bad ground wire on starter motor and replaced the connector for OSS, prblem re-occured shortly after i left shop took it back they had it for 2 weeks could find nothing so i had them replace the OSS once again, was fine for a little over a month and back to a different shop they had it for a week drove it over 100 miles and could get it to do nothing, and same situation started same symptom shortly after i picked it up...... can anyone give me any suggestion on what to do i dont want to start replacing everything and wasting money on replacing good parts..... any help is GREATLY appreciated..thank you in advance
You have a broken or corroded wire between the computer and the OSS. You can try and find it, or you could run new wires. These wires may be wrapped together, I can't remember.
Alternatively (pun intended) you could have a failed diode in the alternator. This puts an AC component in the signal line for the speed sensor. The PCM can't tell the difference from that and the real signal from the sensor.
