Good question, I don't believe radiator hoses necessarily come with a spring anymore for some reason. Manufacturers say they aren't needed.

If you can see the lower hose collapsing though, as you describe, it's certain to be a major issue at highway cruise speeds/RPM. Fixing this would go a long way to remedying the issue I'd wager.

You can roll yer own spring easily. Coat hanger material would be plenty strong enough.

I have gates hoses. And there supposed to be made of something that won't collapse but I call bs on that since the hose has done that since it was new. So I tried and tried to find one with a spring or a spring to put in and couldn't ever find one. So what would be something good to wrap it around?

Yea a spring in a modern hose is rare these days, they claim they just dont need em.

So question would be how old is that hose?

Might better just replace it with a fresh one if have doubts, I agree with those before me, what you describe sounds like a lower hose collapsing under exactly that condition. The water pump puts quite a bit of vac on that lower hose when running at highway speeds especially if the stat isn't open very much from the onset, an older weakened hose wouldn't stand a chance under those conditions.

Determine the inside diameter of the hose, find a form that is the same size, and wrap the wire material around it to form a spring that will run the length of the hose. Insert spring into hose, secure clamps, go for a beer. It's OK if it extends into the radiator or water pump housing a bit. This is rocket science, but it ain't that bad.

Let us know what works, what doesn't. If you're having an overheating problem likely somebody else will find the cure pretty helpful
