Last september the front pump on my 4r100 started to leak, i have other issues (delayed reverse, super soft 1-2 shift). I didnt have the money for a complete rebuild so i pulled the trans brought it to a shop where a buddy works and had the entire front pump rebuilt and factory updates done to it Long with my transgo parts installed from my shift calibration kit. Less than a year later i have fluid dripping from the rubber plug again and more this time than last septmeber. Just noticed it today because it snowed all weekend and i have a big pink spot in the driveway snow. Could my jnternL isses with the clutches be causing the front viton pump seAl to go in less than a year? Or our my problems starting to effect other stuff in the trans?
I will assume you are posting from a mobile phone... My dad had a 4R100 rebuilt with transgo parts three years ago (after I trashed it more than six years ago trying to outperform a jeep) and hasn't had any issues. Did they put a larger trans cooler in?
Well, if the front pump bushing was worn and not replaced at the time you had service last year, it's possible for the seal to be worn out again and leaking. Same for the snout on the torque converter. If it had wear and was reinstalled as-is, then same issue.
Try a quart can of K&W Trans-x. It has done wonder's for me when ever I have needed a patch. It may get you that extra time until you can afford a rebuild. B.
I ALWAYS drill the converter bearing fluid return passage to 5/16" when I rebuild a pump. I also ensure that the bearing is installed with the "notch" at 6 o'clock and the passage is properly filed after installation of the bearing. This ensures a no-leak situation after installation.
-Transgo was originally put in abour four years ago, oump parts installed last September when i pulled trans
-bushing was replaced with a brand new one, snout was inspected and TQ convertor was pressure tested
-new bushing was installed correctly then drain hole was enlarged and filed smooth and then steam cleaned before rebuilding
-stock cooler on my 5.4 i now longer tow anything larger than my 16' duck boat
Its been fine untill it dropped to single digits with this snow storm, its 42* today and pumpnis not leaking...i hot water pressure washed it and drove home from work right now no drips
