When I first bought it the temperature sending unit in back on the 4.9 efi, near the dog house was broken. So initially I didn't have a read. Once I installed a new one, it I never had any overheating issues. I have many other issues.
My concern is that I'm running rich, so I decided to replace the thermostat, but lo and behold I failed this time around. The head just came off the first bolt (it is really cold hear in NY, and I didnt think about torching it before hand).. and I figured, leave it at that for the time being (I dont want to pay 200 to replace the thermostat).. Since it runs and drives. So I'm curious as to the temperature on the 4.9l efi. Would it run on N-0 with a 160 thermostat, or is my intuition that its bad, right?
Also my cluster has the battery amp light come on and off during driving specifically over bumps.
Maybe the Temp sending unit is not the right one as it was different, and I had to jerry rig it, since the nut didnt fit on. My wire didnt have a rubber cap. But rather a nut and a spacer that goes inbetween. It does give a reading but maybe im good.
I actually think the previous owner must have glued that head back on. Because when I bought it, he had a thermostat gasket for me... He gave it to me and said here you go a free gasket.
I've never had a bolt break on me before, it was quite disappointing considering the circumstances.
oil pressure 'appears' high.
water temp 'appears' low. DON'T guess with temps and pressures !!
Infrared temp guns come in handy right about now..
So does an oven thermometer resting in the radiator..
get creative and figure it out
I'm not sure about the vans but didn't Ford use a resistor behind the dash panel that would affect gauge operation ?
