Straight up. Lol. 96 F250 7.5L. I went to replace the belts. I go to loosen the lower Alt bolt to be able to move the alternator to remove the first belt. It would NOT budge after a few turns. Then I finally thought it move....but I ended up bending the head of it over. Well I am about to remove it, except....I can't put this bolt back on. Where would I go about finding a new replacement bolt? And don't say hardware or autopart stores. I also scoured the junkyards. Accept...you know how hard it is to find a 7.5L in one? HAH! Damn near impossible. They don't carry one big enough. This is a rather large bolt. Lol. Any help would be appreciated lads n ladies.
Well I saw Fastenal in my google search, but I didn't think they would have a bolt big enough. And they didn't. They wanted like $25 to make one. I ended up going by ACE Hardware for some self drilling screws for something else and I found an exact bolt to match! So if anyone else needs bolts, ACE Hardware is where its at.
I had somewhat the same issue many years back on my 7.3 IDI or maybe another Ford Truck I owned with the 7.5L. Anyway I snapped off a long bolt on the alternator inside the threads. My brother in law suggested to drill it out. I took a drill bit and drilled out the jammed up hole and then headed to Fastenal and ordered up what I needed. Had to buy a bag of 5. Ordered them a bit longer so I could throw a nut on the back side. Worked like a charm. Not sure if this is the same case as yours, but maybe an idea if it is. I still have that bag of bolts sitting on my bench.
