I have been to the site posted around the forum here to decode the vin but I still have a few questions. According to my title i have a 1976 f250, The vin on the warranty sticker is telling me it is a 1977... I think. Also I do not have the plate that they show in the picture as the example. I only have a white sticker. It does not have half the info that that plate would show.I guess my question is what year is my truck really and what motor was supposed to be in it?

Warranty Plate (upper pic) riveted to the left door face below the latch.
If it's missing, a replacement with the VIN & all the correct codes stamped on it is available from martiauto.com by passing along your VIN and some bucks.
Safety Standard Certification Label (lower pic) glued to the B pillar below the striker plate. Has the production date (upper left corner), VIN and misc GVW's printed on it.
Part of my problem with some of those sites are I do not have a 17# vin it's only 11. martiauto.com is asking me for the year of the truck and that is one of the things I'm not sure about. I'm not 100% sure of the motor either. The hood has a decal that says 351 but the motor has a sticker on the valve cover that says 400. I was told the truck had a restoration about 13 years ago so I no longer know whats original and what is not. It has been through 2 other owners since then.
As soon as I can get the truck back into the garage I will try checking those spots. I tried the vin on that second site and it says it's a 77 but dmv has the title as a 76. I don't really care other than the fact I do not want to order parts that don't or won't work. The sticker says it was manufactured 8/76 maybe it is supposed to be titled as a 77 but dmv saw that and thinks it's a 76? the last numbers of the vin put it in the 77 model year. Then again it is the door tag not the stamped vin so I guess I really need to look at those first. I just wish I wasn't in the middle of a blizzard.
August 1976 was about the time of model year changeover so that is kind of a gray area. Might have sat on a dealer lot quite a while before it was bought newe and titled and thus titled a 1976 or 1977.
One sure fire way to tell is the front emblems. 1973-76 used the same F250 emblems and were mounted on the front fenders. 1977-79s were mounted near the doors and were redesigned.
If the NY DMV says it's 1976, it's a 1976. They are always right !!!!
Once I was looking for some parts for sons' 91 Merc, junkyard had one. Turned out to be a 92 style, made in April 1991 according to the date on the warranty sticker.
Is the VIN on the warranty sticker the same as the title?
