Just bought a 95 7.3 auto with 270,000 miles. Trans was rebuilt 60k ago and serviced every 10k since then. Very well maintained truck mechanically. I'm 100% new to diesels. She's gunnap be my daily and I'm looking to do a few simple mods for mpg and power. Looking at doing the 6637 diy intake. 3" downpipe 4" straight pipe and boost, trans temp, and egt gauges. With that in mind I started looking at chips/tuners/programmers and the ts 6 pod is very cheap with the ts tunes on it. Somewhere around $250. It's more like $400 for the same chip with anybody else's tunes.... Why? I mostly want the stock tune, high idle to warm her up quicker, economy, tow, and some sort of performance tune. I understand my stock high miles 90cc injectors will only get me low 200s for hp. Is it really worth almost double the money to get beans, tw, whatever big name tunes in my truck with only a few simple mods and stock injectors/turbo? Also since everybody has these chips any feedback on the ts economy tune for a stock or close to stock truck?
See that's the thing I have no plans for serious power mods right now, it's just a daily while I work on my actual project truck. But while I drive it I want the best economy I can get, along with a high idle cause it's getting colder and colder here in ct. Maybe a year or so from now I'll start throwing fuel mods and a custom tune at it, but for the time being is the ts economy tune worth my while?
You wont see no increase in economy, performance will be noticeable thou. Do the mods you mentioned and drive her. Save the money for injectors and tunes, you will be glad you did.
