Alternator Confusion
Part store shows I need a 3G alternator.
Current alternator put on by PO in 2013/14 s a Duralast DL7764 from Autozone. Tag is still on it.
My battery light is coming on for a few seconds and going off for several hours before it comes on again.
Connections are good....crappy Autozone alternators.
But for some reason my motor has a 6G alternator. All parts stores say I need a 3G.
Did Ford put 6G'S in all excursions, or do I have a 2004+ motor in my 2000 Ex?
Or will a 6G fit where a 3G is supposed to be? All connections look factory including electrical hook ups.
I don't know what it would take to swap in a 6g mount setup but it would not shock me if it was doable.
It has the DL7764 for a 2004 V10 ex. Which should be a 6G but it's not. It's a 3G.
So, mine is a 3G. Varified visually. Stupid Autozone.
Not sure what the 3512 is, probably a 6G..
I will get my part from NAPA and hope it's better quality.
I will check the idiot light connection on the alternator before I swap them out.
PO mus have broken tab that keeps the idiot light wire snug. I siliconed the connector in place.
So now I have a spare oem alternator I bought used for $35. A rebuild kit for it and a new180 amp stator and rectifier. Total cost of $135. I will put it on shelf and wait for an alternator to go out on one of my 2 excursions.
I have a feeling the 1 yr old autozone alternator was a result of a broken idiot light connector.
