If the mechanic took the money he should answer the question. He had his mits in that transmission, no one here did.
Shift fork replacement has been discussed here and done by members before, with several threads. Once the forks are in, the trans is in N, and the stick is placed back in the correct position, you should be good to go.
Sounds like you've got multiple issues here as it appears you pulled the trans, fiddled with the clutch and TC?

You will have to retrace your work.
yes you are right I will have to do that, I don't think I messed anything up, all I did was replace the slave cylinder tho
Grinds while trying or grinds after you tried? There is a difference in the two:
A) If the clutch does not disengage fully, it will grind while trying. That is clutch release issues.
B) If once you put it in Reverse and release the clutch, it grinds, then it is not fully engaged in Reverse. That is shift fork or shifter issues.
well forgot to mention, he gave me a new shifter and put that in for free, and I also forgot, it does go in reverse, but only in 4L, but it grinds as I'm trying to get in reverse in 4H or 2wd
Ok everyone, I have my truck fixed and back on the road, a year later lol, just finished it yesterday, the problem was my transfer case was garbage, went to the junkyard got one for 70 bucks slapped that in there and it drives perfectly thru all gears
So it doesn't move in reverse either in 4L? It still sounds to me that your transfercase isn't right
you were right, took my old one apart and saw the problem whoever had it before me, welded it up and it cause it to always pop out, so I put a new one in there and it's as good as new
