every time i go to fuel my truck i have to pump the fuel extremely slow.. if i just pull the trigger and let it go it will back up in the neck and kick off the pump and spill out all over the side of the truck.. what causes this? is the vent messed up some how? how can i check this or correct this issue? is there a video anywhere that i can watch to fix this? any advice is appreciated.. thanks..
When you try to pump quickly, does the gas pump shut off, as if the tank is full? It's common on some Fords to have that issue. I know it can be fixed, but I don't know what needs done. Sorry I can't help more.
one of my tanks was like that. It had the inner lining of the fuel filler hose broken in half. If i understand it right, when filling the truck, the outer diameter area is to allow air to escape back up the neck, to allow fuel to easily pass through the center area.
so basically the only way to correct this is to replace the entire filler neck.. its not just as simple as swapping out a vent or something like that.. ok so the next question would be how would you go about pulling the old neck and putting in a new one.. guessing you would have to drop the tank and everything, right?
If it's an alignment issue, it may be able to be adjusted. If it's cracked inside, then it would need to be replaced.
I always pull the bed, rather than drop the tank. It's just easier for me.
You may be able to loosen the hose clamp on the tank side, and then take the bolts out on the bed side, and slide it out that way. However if it's cracked in two, you may end up fishing for the other end in the tank.
