my 89 F-250 is a bear to get fuel into the back tank it will only go in real slow. if I open the nosle all the way open it just clicks off. It takes forever to fill my back tank. I have looked at the hose to the tank and it does not appear to be squezed or in bad form. what else could I check?? Thanks
When you open the fuel door and remove the cap there is the one big hole for the fuel nozzle and right beside it is a very tiny air hole mine was plugged, cleared it and it worked fine.
Also this one particular station I fuel up at the elevation on one side of the pump is slightly higher, the fuel will pour in on that side but really slow on the other!!Figure that one out!!
I'll check the hole. But now that I think of it the place I fill up at is not all that flat. I bet if I was to fill from the other side of the pump with my truck turned around it would be running down hill into the tank. the station I fill at only has one small nosle pump so I alway use the same one the same way.. Thanks, I'll give it a try
When I first got my 1987 (in90) I had the same problem. There was a Ford Tech Serv Bulletin/ Recall that was fixed under the full warranty. I don't know what the TSB number is, but that sure fixed my problem. I think they had to put a new filler tube on both tanks.
I have the same problem with my 93 f-250. And with dual tanks sometimes it can take 10-12 minutes. Never thought about the pressure relief hose. I'll try that, thanks.
I thought I was the only one that has this problem. Its so frustrating. Sometimes if I hold the pump up it will go faster but I half to hold it the entire time while fueling. This goes for the front and rear tanks
I had a flat bed with this problem- the flatbed restricted the angle the fill tubes were at- almost pinched them off coming over the top of the frame-
the solution- I carried a 4x4- or similiar large chunk of wood- just idled up the tire onto it in front of the pump so now it was more of a downward angle. It filled quick then. Sucked when the wood bounced off in the field tho.
Same problem here on my '90 f-superduty. Front no problem. Rear is aggravating, have to use the first click on nozzle and sometimes it still shuts off.
Hey guys wanna fix the slow fill probs? There is a hose inside the fill hose going into the tank,if you pull the filler hose out you will see it.If you cut some of the hose off(8-12 inches)you will get better filling speeds and also you will get extra fuel into your tanks.Just be carefull not to cot too much off or you will be in for a diesel shower, thats what its there for.
