Very cool. I like the 57 the best of the early trucks and have thought of a similar build. My friends all said I was crazy though. So kudos to you. I did a 79 I ton dually and built a fuelie 400 for it. They said I was crazy then too. lol. Looking forward to seeing the finish....though I can tell you from experience, they're never finished. Best

Thanks. I like the 57 & 58 the best, but my favourite is the 61-66. Ah don't listen to your friends follow your dreams and fulfill you passions with artistic talents building old trucks. I find it as an amazing outlet and can spend hours researching and relaxing building hot rods and spending time in the garage. You are right they are never done. This one is a build and flip to see how I do, my time I will eat but I would like to get my money back on parts if possible. My budget is 20,000 CAD. We will see. If not no biggie I will keep it 😀 just don't tell the Mrs.
Your 64 looks great, love the two tone and colors. I like this site, I come here and don't feel out of place. Couple years ago was looking at a new F-650 rollover-salvage with some guys, not for me but. I blurted out that he could buy it and put a 57 BIG JOB cab and front on it to make something really unique. They all just stared at me like I was from another planet. lol. I won't tell the missus, your secret is safe with me.

The skies the limit really, depends how creative you want be aside from putting a Ford on a Chevy frame of course.
Hey are you the same guy I just bought my 2 fenders and doors from in Calgary?
Here's a pic of the manifold I built mounting 4bbl Cleveland heads a 400M. Built the full length equal length headers as well..and the deck. lol. My ex used to say my imagination should not be encouraged. To me you're more like my brother. I love what you're doing with this truck and can't wait till things work out so I can get started on my next project. By that time my fertile mind will have dreamed up several more....It never ends.
Not I. In Albertee though, north a ways. Here's a pic of the manifold I built mounting 4bbl Cleveland heads a 400M. Built the full length equal length headers as well..and the deck. lol. I just meet another fella named Gord that's why I ask, he has a few trucks he's using to do a build and he lives in calgary but his shop is up near red deer.
That manifold is a thing of beauty. If the 400 if built right is a good engine from what I have read.
It's good to know there's more like me out there 😎. The only issue I have is time right now, can't seem to get more than a an hour or so here and there lately. My budget is pretty much gone for the year but it will reset in January. Lol. I just want to get my frame done fuel and brake lines done and fuel tank in so I can roll it outside and tarp it. Then I can start the sheet metal work.
R u in Calgary? I'm in Edmonton for now though I would Love to see the truck sometime.
What attracted me to the 400 was "A", truck had a 400 in it and: "B" Read bout a 400 4bbl in a book that listed it as 400 ft lbs torque at 2200 rpm! It was the longest stroke engine in the ford stable. To me it was just a big cleveland without compression that couldn't breath. So I set about solving those problems. Headers and manififold are built to match MPG port plates for optimized flow. THIS WORKS VERY WELL. I had to true deck it and align bore it though, all the stock machining was way off. They said it was running close to 7.1 compression in stock trim! Chassis dyno puts it at 150hp to the rear wheels in third gear! They wouldn't take it any higher. Sure sounded good.

Just south of Calgary, I do hit some local car shows and drive it out to Radium every year. That's a great torque engine there. I would think you could get more HP with some porting on the heads and a custom cam. Guy by the name of Scotty Johnson does great things with the 400 and 460 platform and has built his business around those engines. He just did a 575 AFR big black and hit around 700hp naturally aspirated. His site is called re-incarnation or RHP. Check out his Facebook page and website. I got my heads ported and a custom cam from him, my 64 is putting down about 435 hp at the flywheel.
That 150 to the ground was only 3500 rpm. They said it translates to about 400 bhp at peak. It has plenty of power. RV cam and 9.5 compression. The port plates are cheap port work. I would like to convert it to serpentine pulleys and add a supercharger and a LENTECH 4SPD automatic in the future. It's fine now for a welding truck but future plans are a bit different. I'll check out that site.
Still working away, ordered bunch of new parts like brake lines and fittings. Did a pick n pull run and grabbed a crown Vic radiator and electric fan set up which is too close so I think I'll swap to a contour fan like on my 64. I have the cab back on and now working on brake booster master cylinder, clutch master, throttle by wire gas pedal, fuel lines. I also had to repair the rust on my radiator support.
