Problems starting in cold weather

2000 F150 4.6L XLT 4x4 165,000 miles. Having troubles starting in cold weather. Engine turns over fine. Engine fires but then dies. problems start at around 30 degrees. The colder it gets the harder it is to start. Temperature was 7 degrees the other day and I ended up running the battery down after 20 minutes of trying to start. Once it does start it runs fine. Any suggestions?

Got a P0401, P0153, and P1131. Tested the IAT it did change as I applied heat but I did notice that the voltage going to it seemed low. Only getting about 3 vdc and I think it should be getting 5 volts supplied to it. I have also checked for vacuum leaks. P0401 and P0153 have been showing for a while now. The only new code since the problem started is the P1131 code.

Now you will need to look up what the codes mean. I don't have a reader so get a friend or shop to see if they can decode this information for you.

I had the same problem. I thought it was related to my extremely noisy power steering pump. I relaced the idle air control valve and it starts fine now. Mornings have been down in the teens lately.

The p0401 is EGR insufficient flow and the p0151 is O2 sensor circuit low voltage (bank 2 sensor 1). The EGR issue, you could try cleaning it I think. Sometimes carbon or whatever can plug it up. The O2 sensor could be a corroded connection in the harness maybe. A multimeter will help to test voltage to the sensor. The IAC can be removed and cleaned up, I would try that before throwing any money at it.
