i looking for clear cut info on how to unplug my 'fuel bowl heater'
ive read many post and nothing is making sense to me.
1. looking at the bowl on the driverside. which wire am i looking for?
2.i cant track where these wires are going to.
3. looking at the bowl....where is the end of the pigtail?
(is there a end to the wire)
load me up with info please. ty
i love pictures. that really help
When the heater on my 97 shorted out, I didn't know which wire on the outside of the bowl was for the heater, so I just took the lid off the bowl, and unplugged the heater from the inside. Might not be the best way, but it worked for me.
The heater is the one with the flat blade (rather than round) terminal. Red/green wire. Don't worry about the other end; that wire goes into a harness and you don't want to mess with the other wires on that harness. Just disconnect it at the bowl, and to be doubly safe, tape off the end of the terminal and zip-tie the wire to a fixed point so it doesn't flop around. You'll be good to go.

Ok inside the bowl the element broke off.
Looking at the bowl on the passengers side i see wires cliped on to the bowl.
Something tells me not that set of wires.
Then on the drivers side of the fuel bowl there atleast two wires coming out leading into a group of wires.
My question is am i cutting the wire? To me thats the only way. Theres no way to unplug it. I know im wrong and confused.
Also is it the wite at the very bottom or the wire closest to the top.
I know this cant be that difficult but im missing something.
Ty
Don't cut anything. There's a connector on the driver's side of the fuel bowl, right at the level of the heater. The red/green wire has a flat terminal on it that connects to that connector. Disconnect it there.
since i see 3 wires you could say its second one from the bottom also?
looking at the picture am i disconnecting that pigtail on the lower left hand side of this picture?
ty for trying to help
No, don't disconnect the pigtail, you need the other two sensors. The middle wire in the photo needs to be disconnected *AT* the bowl.
You can also just remove it from the inside without disconnecting it on the outside, which is what I recommend. Open up the bowl, unthread the center stem, unplug the fuel heater from *inside* the bowl, remove it, separate it from its stainless steel plate base, put the plate back in, thread the center stem back in, and put the filter and lid back on. Done.
great.
is there any tricks on getting that wire off(from the outside)
my big paws have a hard time reaching it.
I used a flat blade screwdriver and inserted it under the rubber grommet, just pried it off. IIRC it's just a spade connector but it's on there pretty good.
Great. Ill give it a shot.
Another question. I attempted to delete it by going inside the fuel bowl way. But when i went to drain the fuel....the fuel wouldnt dump out.
is there a reason why fuel wouldnt flush out?
thats normal for fuel to not come out unless you take the cap off.
You wont loose fuel taking the filter out. Just the filter that dribbles off the filter.
Drain some before putting filter back in, you'll usually dump fuel then.
I dont have anything plugged into my fuel bowl, i deleted them all.
