Well besides the PRICE. Is there any other issues with using one?

I have a 05 V-10 Eddie Bower.

The oil goes into the MAF and makes your truck run crappy, just keep your oem stuff in and do the modds to you itake system mentioned.

Tom talked me into doing the Banks header kit, and I'm glad I did. Pricey, but well worth it.

What gains did you see going with the headers and Y-pipe?

Heres a pic of a 3" pvc pipe comparing to the stock 6.8 and 5.4 intake snorkel

My wifes X has both mods, 5 star tunned by Mike, spd y pipe, straight piped (deleted resonator and muffler,) No proof that it helps but it feels like it took some of the slack from the bottom end when towing. The other thing I noticed that while towing my intake manifold feels cool to the touch when I did the Zoodad mod. No dyno, so how effective is it but it worked for me.

Gas engines use the same types of bearings as the ford Diesel engines. Neither one of them is going to last long with dirt in engine oil as that dirt destroys the crank, rod and cam bearings. Oiled gauze filters ( k&n) are more porous then paper and while that allows more air to flow past it also allows more dirt to pass.

I was leaning towards forced induction, not just the diesels. No one in the diesel community will tell you to buy a K&N air filter, hence why I said diesels

OK, the earlier ones did have the Ram's Horn Y pipes I think, so its better than the later T pipe monstrosity. But they still have the same restrictive stock exhaust manifolds, the headers will open up the way for better breathing. As was said earlier the factory cold air intake is a good design and can keep up with the V-10 just fine, the exhaust has room for improvement. The factory 3" mandrel bent exhaust piping is a good size for the engine and is well laid out, with headers and a decent performance muffler you should free up some potential output. I know with my Banks headers that it is definitely making more power/torque and that really becomes obvious while towing our 11k TT. I paid $850-ish for my banks headers and made this installation thread on them. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ll-w-pics.html
Your choices for V-10 headers are limited to just few manufacturers, based on posts by members here the banks and Thorleys seem to be the top quality leaders. We have had several Hedman users report failures of their ball & socket joints and have seen cracks in Borlas. The only report of a cracked banks header I've read was on Gary's supercharged V-10, so they were seeing more heat and flow than typical. There used to be a a cheap set sold through ebay and there were many posts here about them cracking too.

K&N filter do flow better than paper filters because they filter less. We have always used K&N (or equivalent) on our Dirt Circle Track cars but those motors get rebuilds so frequently that the addition internal wear from the poorer filtration isn't an issue, for a street car/truck I'll stick to quality paper filters.

On my EX I don't have the Zoodad or any other intake mods and my intake air temp (which I do monitor) rarely gets more than 10 to 15 degrees above ambient while moving.

Photobucket was acting up on me earlier and it wouldn't let me link to my pics but now it's feeling better.

This picture shows the size difference between the stock exhaust manifold and the Banks Headers. The interior of the manifold after the fifth inlet was only about 15% larger than each individual header primary tube's interior size.

The stock manifolds look tiny compared to your headers. Hows the sound from stock to long tubed headers?

I've had my K&N CAI since the X had 20k miles. I have never had an issue with the MAF fouling. And even if you do you can clean them with a little brake clean. I have had mine to the sand dunes and never found anything in the intake tract. No oil or dirt, nothing! And while the K&N does allow more airflow it still filters well because the oil attracts the dirt and sticks to it. If it didn't filter good it would never get dirty! Mine gets very dirty. I clean it about every 15-20k miles.

And yes all my vehicles have a K&N, I've used them since I could afford to maintain a car. I've never had an issue with dirt in the engine or any failures of any kind from the use of a K&N.

Hardly any difference in sound from the tailpipe actually, from the driver's seat you can hear more of a hissing sound from the headers but not really that noticeable. Under high loads it does have a bit more rumble but nothing major, just enough to hear a difference. At this time the exhaust system is still stone stock from the cat inlet back, I plan to eventually install an Aeroturbine 3030XL muffler like the Unicorn has.

Our EX is our dedicated tow rig, it sees about 75 to 80% of it's miles towing the TT so my biggest concerns with the exhaust is have no drone and acceptable interior noise at highway speeds for those 10 hour tow days.

10-4 on that our x used to be our tow rig, but that 5.4 struggled with our TT, know I have my obs diesel to do all the towing and know our weekend driver, the X is exclusively the wifes daily driver know and she loves the sound of her 5.4
