Well after selling the '49 last year I'm down to driving my mustang every day. I sold the truck because I just couldn't justify owning a pure joy ride. It was way too original and nice to me to daily drive and haul with. So now I'm back to my thoughts of a long term project vehicle like I've mentioned before. So my first order of business is this question....
IF you were looking for a Ford F250 or F350 rolling chassis where would you look? Or....does anyone have one or know where one is?
Here are my MUSTS:
1. Must be a 7.3 Powerstroke chassis
2. Must be a straight frame
3. Must eventually be an automatic transmission
Here are my options:
1. Could be a wrecked truck where all the sheet metal is worthless
2. Could have the engine and transmission intact
3. Could be DWR
Are you wanting to do a full frame swap? Or just swap the newer drivetrain parts into an old chassis?
I like to buy a complete driving donor. If it has a good body or body parts, you can sell off any good parts. If you can get a good deal on the donor, you can usually make back most of the cost of the vehicle by selling off the rest of the unneeded parts.
Also don't rule rule out vans/cube vans for a donor.
Yeah I could do that....but this is my home forum and buds....lol.....and I'm going to treat the project as a 48-56. Good chance that it will end up with a 53-56 cab on it. Maybe a post in that other forum could get me a lead though.
Thanks for the reply!

Hey Ted. I don't consider it a frame swap and no I have no interest in an old frame. I want all the chassis and powertrain to be 1999-2004 F250 or F350 with the 7.3 PS and automatic trans. Good idea on selling all the parts I don't need. My goal is to have something resembling this:
This is an old thread from 2012 but as an example, here is 1991 chassis (may be too old I'm not sure) that would be ideal. It came with a 7.3 PS in it. If you read the post he did quite a bit to it already. Just something to reference.......

Here is an application chart for the 7.3L engine....
Applications:
1994.5-1997 Ford F-250/F-350
1999-2003 Ford Super Duty
2000-2003 Ford Excursion
1994.5-2003 Ford Econoline
1994-2003 Ford E-Series van/bus chassis
.
That frame would have been a 7.3 IDI engine, not a Power Stroke. Like you posted, the truck would have to be a 1994.5+ truck to have the power stroke. Getting a donor in decent enough shape to sell off parts at a good price will be difficult. The 7.3 power stroke trucks are holding their value pretty well. The insurance company gave me almost $11,000 for my 97 when I wrecked it last year.
Hey there Wayne, I just happened to see your Avatar, and just had to say hello. You know Im not the one to answer your frame swap questions, but it's great to see you on the board, and maybe with a project. Cool beans!

Thanks Jim. Felt good to post some....almost human again!
