F550 trans issue

4r100 trans problems help. It in my early 99 f550 plow truck. 2wd, 253xxx of unknown work to it. Bought it with 252,000. When you first go to put the truck from park to drive it like the truck in Neutral. Truck will roll backwards then grab itself. However if you put it down into 1st it will engage right away. I'm not understanding the difference here.. It seem the hotter the trans get the worse the problem becomes. I notice it a lot when plowing and salting and going from reverse to drive a lot. Almost all of last night storm I had to go to first to get going then back to drive. However if I come to a red lights and come to a full stop it will be just fine when I go to go. (Green light) It will shift threw all the gears fine. No slipping other then first gear if you want to call it slipping. I'm hoping to swap it to 4x4 over the summer so I'm just trying to by time.

sounds like it may have a bad solenoid in the trans, or maybe the shift tube is loose.

I'm thinking it a solenoid problem. All other gears work fine. I also have no codes.

I know it isn't a solenoid problem, it's a worn out forward clutch.

When you select 1 instead of D the pressure is higher and the worn out clutch will engage much quicker.
