Okay - patch panel from Tabco arrived. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the flare either. here is a photo taken showing how it is flat from the wheel lip up to the dent (trim channel)
LMC catalog shows small patch not having flare, but large patch having the flare. I will call and ask them to send me a pic of the actual part, unless someone here has used them. After talking to Tabco, who were very confident their patch had flare, I am going to confirm before paying shipping again.
For future reference.
As usual, I'm late to the party again.
I'm in the process of rebuilding my old bed and building a new bed too. I bought my replacement quarters from NPD (National Parts Depot) The full quarters are nice with crisp, clean lines but the driver's side is only available with the square fuel door opening. Mine, being a '73 has the round opening so I also bought a repair panel from them so I can patch in the correct fuel opening.
The repair panel stamping is just as good as the full quarter. It comes with the lip around the wheel well.
Here are a couple of pictures.
You know, I had the same problem when I patched my wheel wells with the small panels. Now I need to order the larger full wheel opening panels to get the proper flare. Thanks for post, this cleared it up for me.
I wish I’d come across this before going down the same path.
I am curious what the solution jbg had for the pass side, the only options I see that may be remotely correct would be the full bedside, the driver side there are options for the large panel
edit: mill supply looks to have large panels for both sides, can see the flare in pics.
Hit a Jy with a sawzall...FYI the front fenders have the same angle. And it you need more of the lip angle/flare and not way up towards the dent, a patch panel from a front fender will work just fine.
I came here to post this very thing. I have a fender just waiting to donate it's "flare" to repair rust hole on left side of my bed.
