I thought I ran out of Fuel, because ole' Blue started to stutter going up Hill. I pull over, and she would not start. The Fuel Filter was dirty from rust.
Had it Towed
*Next Day*
I placed fuel in the tank, because i thought it was empty. It started right up. I drove it up hill for 1 Block. She died again..
Does this sound like a fuel Pump issue? I drove it a few days before without any issues.
How much fuel is in the tank? If it's low and you were going up hill, the fuel would go towards the back of the tank, and possibly not be enough in there to pick up.
If you look inside the carb and pull the accelerator can you see that it is praying fuel into the carb
Have a fuel extinguisher handy when doing these kinds of tests. Should keep one in the truck at all times.
The newer fuels are hard on hoses and fuel system components. While engine is idling direct the output of the fuel pump into a clean container. Should be at least 1 pint in 30 seconds.
The engine will idle for quite a while with just the fuel in the carburetor, plenty long to check fuel pump output. Engine won't actually use a quart of gas every minute, but it must be able to provide that much volume, at all times under all conditions. If fuel pump is more than a few years old and/or the truck sat a lot, it's good practice to replace it.
Blow out the hard lines with shop air back in to the tank. The sock likely rotted long ago anyway. Replace any and all rubber fuel hose and clamps, reset carburetor float level (important) finally idle mixture, and idle RPM.
I'm starting to wonder if your losing Spark
Maybe after you get the truck idling wiggle some wires around. It may cut out, or shock you but you'll be able to find the problem.
