Mr. Murphy struck last night. Changed both fuel filters as I have done previously in the past. Accidently left the drain on the frame filter open a little. Did not prime the new filters the required 6 times. Engine will not start. How do I purge the air out and start the truck?
(2011 6.7 Diesel F-250). It is 15 Degrees F outside at the moment.
I did the same thing once . As Tom says cycle the fuel system 6 to 8 times for the required amount of seconds(seems like it was 10 seconds or so) and it will start.
At this point, I'd consider 6 times the minimum. When I change mine out, I go by the sound. Or more accurately, the lack of air sound. If you listen, you will hear the frame rail pump run, and eventually shut off, which is roughly 30 seconds. that is 1 cycle. Do that as many times as it takes until you no longer hear air gurgling in the lines.

That is the procedure I use as well, and it usually takes more than 6 cycles of the pump to get rid of the gurgling, but I've never had any issue with starting afterward.

I recommend this as well. I typically do more than 8, it just depends on the sounds (gurgling, squealing, squeaking, etc.).
Also, don't crank it too much. The HPFP isn't designed to operate dry.
Thanks. Initially I clicked the link and thought the filter was just an image of what was inside the underhood canister...but on second thought, those are sold sealed. Good price, I guess.
