Thanks for posting the pics, I was about to order one, but after seeing where it mounts im not interested, However I really like the idea of using factory bolts with a custom bent mount.
I use my phone as a GPS device so I would want it closer to the windshield or instrument cluster so that my eyes are not averted too far from the road when I glance at it.
I think I will take this idea and try to make up something custom if possible.
I will just make up some brakes, and bend, cut, and drill the metal myself.
I modified this and relocated it to the other side of the heater controls. Upon installing a Pana-Vise mount to this it vibrates too much to be useful for anything that you need to watch, like a gps, etc. If you just wanted to dock a cell phone it would be ok but for my, and your, use its worthless.
I use a Scosche Magic Mount. They make several different mounting options. Mine is a dash/window mount that I've mounted near the A pillar and the dash. The suction cup is gummy and works on textured plastics. They are magnetic, and come with stick on steel plates. I put it under the battery cover on my phone. There is only a slight bulge that is hardly noticeable anymore. The magnets are strong enough that the phone stayed put even during my recent front end collision at about 30 mph.
