Yes, I have bought used before. It's harder than hell because there are so many different vehicle configs and colors. You have to be EXTREMELY patient to find one.
A lot of the used toppers you see for sale come from car dealerships. Trucks with toppers don't sell well, so the dealers immediately pull off the topper and sell it to a local reseller. You could tell dealers in your area that you are in the market and to call you when one comes in of the right color. These will come in on used trucks so poke around at all the dealers, not just Ford.
As for me, I ordered a new topper when I bought a new truck. After all..... I had just bought a new truck so an additional topper wasn't going to break the bank.
I know it seems cheap of me but I have never bought a new topper of truck before.
I found one similar to what I have had priced out only red instead of blue and this one is reinforced. I am using it for my business so the cover will get wrapped for advertising. The CL ad says they bought it last year paid $2600 selling for $1000/obo
I have patience for a little while but it is winter and I don't like my ladders getting covered in snow.
Thanks for the info you guys were able to give me. The width is what I was most worried about but I did not think of the tailgate difference.
I just bought an Undercover for my 2015. The one off my 2012 does NOT fit. I really like the Undercover because you can walk on top of it to wash the roof of the truck!
They are hard to find used, and hard to sell used as well. Just too many combinations of bed length and paint colour to work with, although if you don't care about colour, that works in your favour.
There's something called paint..............I've bought two used shells and they were painted to match my trucks.
I know the tailgate is the issue on the new 2015's. I saw Leer had this weird looking black piece at the bottom of the door that tried to match the tailgate and I didn't like it at all.
The new tailgate is ugly and it makes for a really ugly topper transition.

Another reason I like the Undercover. They were originally available in any color you want..............so long as it is black. Henry Ford would have been proud!
Went looking at cab high toppers this weekend. I have a 2016 with 6.5 bed , was told only 15-16 models would fit due to shape of tailgate. Looked at a ARE but did not like the cheap looking and thin plastic flap that covers the top of the tailgate. I'm going to check out Leer and Snug top this weekend. Any body have any opinion's on any of these brands. I have found good and bad things said about all of them online this weekend.
I have not seen the exact toppers in person. They have the floor models but I am sure they are a few years old.
The extras I am getting are a driver's side door, front Slider, and a ladder rack. Price for them were:
Leer-$2200
Unicover-$2000
ARE-$1800
To me most of them are pretty equal among their lines of quality. I am either going with Unicover or ARE not because of the topper but the shops and how they handled me asking questions.
For me a working latch and no huge crack from a tree landing on the topper will be a huge improvement. I was excited to have a working radio and power locks when I got the new truck.
Different ones are made in different parts of the country, and the big companies like Leer have several manufacturing plants, so sometimes, it's cheaper to just get the ones made closest.
When I was looking, there was no significant difference in quality or reputation between brands, so I bought the cheapest, which for me was the Leer Legend, and I was 100% satisfied with it.
