Electrical Problems?!?
Hi guys, I am having a problem with my '96 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 2.3l 5-speed. I had a dead battery yesterday and after I jumped it and was driving around the voltage gauge was jumping around like crazy. I was going to take it to autozone and have the alternator tested. But first I turned off the engine and tried to restart it. It made a loud popping sound (somewhere by the battery), and now it won't even take a jump! It turns over fine, but it will not start. I wonder if the popping noise could have been some kind of fuel relay or something?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you Ken, I replaced the fuel relay and the truck jumped right off. I drove around for a minute and the voltage gauge began fluctuating and then pegged on zero, should I even have the alternator checked? or should I just replace it? Thanks for any advice!
