Parting out a crashed truck?

Is it worth while to buy back and part out a crashed truck? It has 161k miles on it, the engine is still good, the trans is still good, somehow the radiator and intercooler are still square somehow, axles should be good too. transfer case drive shafts etc

How much could i expect to get on a part out? would it be worth while? only the front drivers side was damaged. but it appears the frame may be slightly bent, and the airbags were deployed(THEY DONT TASTE GOOD!) but other than that the truck is how it was. before

Parts trucks seem to go anywhere from $500 to $2000 on the auction circuit on a regular basis. I don't know why there is such a big window on the price.

It all depends on how much they want for the truck and how valuable your time is to tear it apart to sell it. Look around on Craigslist and eBay to get an idea of what parts are going for.

You should do well. I know I had to pay over 300 bucks a while back for an alternator bracket/mount that Ford no longer makes/sells. As long as you have the time and place to sit on the parts until they sell and have the time to post everything

We have an attic for all the parts and will probably scrap the frame and a few other useless parts. I am looking at a few other options now though and this could turn into something a whole lot more interesting than a part out, stay tuned haha I think if i get what im thinking and its under 1k to buy back i will do that. You may see parts up or you may see pictures of a killer build

Running 7.3L with 160K and forged rods? The compression test results would be a value multiplier factor.

Sorry to hear about the truck - that sounds like a hosing. These things are valued at about $18-$20K in Washington state - with those miles on a 7.3L. I can't believe they're totaling it... it must be serious frame damage.

Compression test and video the engine running before you tear it down. That would add hugely to the value of the engine in the minds of many buyers.

The truck was just declared totaled for sure. I will be getting a compression test and video of it running. The truck can practically drive but the power steering shaft going into the pitman arm snapped. otherwise It woulda been driven home.

I too am in agree ment on this, usually if a vehicle is "totaled" its due to major damage that EXCEEDS the value of the vehicle for repaires...I would be concerned with this one too....

In case you do not know you do not have to accept their first offer, I had a vehicle get rear ended on I-8 by a tractor trailer (dust storm) and they valued it at $26K. After doing my own research I negotiated almost $10K more out of them, just for the vehicle, before we even started discussing the personal injury.
