I may be test driving a 2002 E350 7.3 diesel with the 4R100 transmission. The owner said he believes a solenoid pack need replacing. He described the symptom as "It slips out of reverse and goes into 1st gear".
I told him to contact me when the problem is solved. He was quoted $450 to have it repaired.
I am not familiar with how this transmission shifts between gears. Any insight will be helpful.
I am looking to replace my E150 van to an E350 for camping and general driving.
I don't know how it could slip out of reverse into first gear. The solenoids are not used to create reverse, so whatever is happening with reverse a solenoid body isn't going to fix it.
