Window Falls When Rolled Down

I have a 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew. Last year it got really cold (2 degrees) and I went to roll down the driver's side front window to get ice off of my mirror. Something broke and my window fell down into my door. I was able to fish the window out and it rolls up and holds the window in place. It will go down a couple of inches, but when it falls it kinda falls forward and then to the bottom.

I have the panel off again right now because my wife used my truck and forgot about the window and I had to go through the process of getting it out again. So I figure now is a good time to fix it.

Any ideas on what broke and what I need to do to fix it? As I say, it will catch and work fine once I pull the window to a certain height and then it seals just fine as long as I don't use it. I looked at other threads and none seemed to fit exactly what mine is doing. Thanks in advance!!

The bottom of the glass is in a mount that it connected to a geared sissor arrangement and roller guides.
Would you guess there is a problem?
Get new parts and have it over with.
Go to ROCK AUTO website and look up the parts and photos.
Good luck.

This is fairly common on the Expeditions and some F150 where the glass is frozen in place and opened. It causes the glass to pull away from the glass brackets. Your local glass shop can reattach them to your glass or you can buy a whole new glass with brackets for as little as 98 bucks.

This I had this happen in my 98' expedition. I broke a guide, went to the Junkyard to get it, then used window epoxy to hold it in. I tried using a few different epoxies, which always failed after a few weeks. Go to a body supply place and ask for window epoxy (it was a 2-part mix, color black when mixed), I think it cost me like $12... well worth it, once I figured it out.

Thanks so much for the responses! It looks like there is a consensus on this problem. Would anyone know of anywhere I could see pictures or a video so I know what I'm dealing with? What is the name of the part?

Bluegrass_7 I looked at Rockauto and couldn't seem to come up with anything that looked like it was what I needed.

So are you saying that the glass glues to the track? I watched a video of someone replacing the motor on Youtube and he unscrewed two bolts and then held the window in place with tape while he changed the motor. Would those bolts have to be removed?

The glass has brackets that are glued to the glass and the brackets bolt to the regulator. They have to be glued back on exactly in the correct spot on the glass to achieve correct alignment. Your local auto glass shop should have new brackets on hand if they are needed and can glue the glass back to brackets or replace the whole window if needed.
You can save some money on the repair by taking the door panel off and put it back on and just have them do the repair. The cost of the repair is usually pretty reasonable.

Yes there was glue between the window and the track. As far as the specific details go, they're are a bit hazy as it's been a few years since I did this. I recall having to remove the glass from the track, or it fell out of the track (I don't remember which it was).

... Sorry for not having more details, but I do recall it being pretty self explanatory (except for the specific epoxy) when I pull the door cover off and look in with a flashlight.

Take some pictures and post them up here... it may bring back memories and will help people in the future.

So I dropped by the auto glass place after work yesterday. The guy took a look at it and the clip closest to the front was really bent up. He told me that the clips come with the window when you buy it. Like HomerWinzlow said. Since I already had the cover off he took a look. He took the bracket off, beat it back straight, put it back in, reglued the window to the brackets and told me not to roll it down until Monday and then come back and see him. The best part....he said just give him $35!!!! Thanks for all the help and pushing me in the right direction! Too bad it took me a year to do this and it took my wife accidentally rolling the window down during our snowstorm to get me moving again!
