Very cool. Would save hundreds on building one from scratch.

This above truck has been mentioned in other similar threads over the years. Finding one of these that's for sale is what's been elusive. This below 52 was rumored to be for sale so I drove to KS and tracked it down, spoke to the owner, and mentioned a dollar number. I know what he paid at auction, and my number was a good profit. I got no response. Stu

Cool truck.

I've seen a few extended cabs from the '48-'56 era, but never one with the rear fenders cut around the cab like that. Very interesting.

Stu, it is a shame about that truck being used as advertising art. Maybe you should offer a junker regular cab in exchange for that crew cab if he is just going to let it sit there holding his sign.

It's been three or four years since I went out there, and am today instead content focusing on projects that are in hand and needing attention. But I post the pics I took of it knowing that phone number is posted on the sign. I agree it's a disgrace to use the rare truck as a sign holder, assuming it still sits there where I saw it. Stu

I noticed the different placement for the gas filler pipe on the two trucks pictured, one high and one low. I wonder if the gas tank was located in the cab or under it.

Brown truck looks like a panel truck rear door was slapped on, top truck has a full rain gutter and different style door. Maybe not the same truck?

Unfortunately my attention was directed to the roof, not the tank location. Here's the driver side showing the third door and two inner roof pics. If I find other interior pics I've forgotten about I'll edit. Stu

They say they made those for military and most of us know about the utility line workers trucks but a while back i was asking about a very long wheel base truck that wasn't a fire engine. I was told by the old timer that knows all about fords that the military ordered them made to their specs and wheel base and doors for special purposes. They said these ones with extra long wheel base were Navy trucks. Does anyone know about this or have numbers of how many were made.

So these were made by Ford, and not a body shop? The interior roof of the brown truck looks like it has "pie cuts" in it.

They were done by coach builders, not the factories. Ford had approved aftermarket companies that advertised their products in the Hildy's Blue Book. Here are two of the more commonly used companies. Stu

Those are nice Stu.

I like the suicide doors on the crew cab.

The original roof panel was cut out leaving a surrounding lip, to which they then attached the new longer panel. I can speculate that they might have used a panel truck roof panel as the basis of the new roof. Stu
