New pump with old pulley installed. They also included two orings. I am familiar with where the white oring goes, but I didn't see a black oring upon removal of my original pump. anyone know where the black oring goes?
I assume they both go on the high pressure side... White one goes towards the rear of the line, I assume the black one goes on the top of the threaded portion that goes into the pump?
Ok, new pump and hose installed. I added a quart of Mercon V fluid to the resevoir and put a rag underneath the pump. I plan on coming back tomorrow to see if it leaks. Due to the design its hard to torque to spec. I tried a crowfoot tool on my torque wrench, but the space is too tight.
When you reinstall on the block, lift the front wheels off the ground on jack stands and turn the steering wheel with engine off back and forth, will help bleed the system. I read this in a old Krewat post.
On another note, after buying the new hose... That black oring that comes with the steering pump when you buy it is for the other side of the high pressure line that goes into the steering box. Just in case anyone wanted to know what it was for.
I have a good machine shop right down the road from my house and they are VERY reasonable. I didn't get much done today because I had to deal with selling my motorcycle to fund the V10 project.
The good news is I have some extra cash now to do some upgrades/mods. The bad news... Which mods do I choose?
Im going to rip both heads off and look at the bottom end and decide if I just reuse my bottom end or if I have the machine shop get the bottom end back within tolerance. My hope is the bottom end looks good and I am going to buy the ramcyl heads with the timerserts in them, bolt everything back together and call it done.
I am going to do the 05 style front end for sure.
Debating on the following mods.
New head unit with backup camera
Diesel transmission cooler
05 Style Tow Mirrors
Thorley Headers?
Would love to do a BTS tranny but think its a little out of my price range due to shipping etc.
My opinion (it's worth what you are paying fr it!) is get the motor done first. Did you ever watch those home remodeling shows? There is alway something unexpected that comes up and usually blows their original budget. The same goes for vehicles. There were many things I have done to my vehicle over the years that now I wish I did not do and used the cash for more important things (family, house ). Granted there are things I did to my vehicles I am glad I did. But the vehicle is a fleeting possession even if you have it for 15 years or more like I usually do. You got a fine looking truck. I would add a good digital camera to capture the memories of that little one sitting in the back seat!
Look what arrived today! New heads with timeserts.
I also spoke to the machine shop today, he is waiting on some bearings and then the short block will be ready to bolt together. Should have it ready to put in this weekend!

Always nice to have fresh new parts to install! Like a kid in the candy store.
Ok, the machine shop front desk gal was horrible.... Her communication was BAD. What I was expecting to pay for the engine + labor I ended up paying just in parts.
The machinists work is top notch as he builds race engines for a living, just wish I knew then what I knew now on price. I more than likely would have just bought a ford REMAN to get the truck back on the road.
pistons were scraping the sidewalls of the cylinders, all 10! He showed me the pistons and wow... Engine had to get bored .20 over, new bearings, pistons and he didn't like the crank main bearing clearances so he turned the crank and put in different bearings to get back within spec.
He said it looked like it was run low on oil or overheated at some point based on the piston sidewall damage. I have rebuilt many snowmachines and it looked much like the same damage when you overheat one.
It's late in the evening and I don't feel like wrenching but I may get out to the garage to get a pic of the shortblock.
Just wanted to let everyone know I did not fall off the earth.
