I recently bought a simple accessory light from Autozone (Blazer C8005W, 55-watt) to use as a backup light for my 1966 F-350 w/dump body. I am going to simply use a rocker switch to flip it on when needed. I was wondering if there is a recommended source to tap into for power. Would the threaded post on the back of the ignition switch be a good/bad idea? I figured it was simple and wouldn't require soldering or stripping existing wires, but I'm not sure about any danger of adding an accessory here. Thanks!
I prefer to leave the ignition switch alone when adding lights. There are a few connectors between the ignition switch and the battery, which build resistance into your circuit. It will be a brighter light if you were to run it from the battery.
Don't forget a fuse! How many lights you want to run determines how large the fuse should be, but the single light will only need around 4 amps, so a 5 or 10 amp fuse would work.
Another recommended option is to wire it up with a relay. That will extend the lifetime of your rocker switch.

Thanks for the feedback. I wired it up direct to the positive battery lead (at the starter relay) under the hood with an in-line fuse. Works great!
I would think you'd want to put it on some keyed source rather than right to the battery. that way you can't leave it on and drain your battery by accident. but good luck!
