This question belongs on another topic, but I noticed in your sig you have the HD headlights. Did you buy the real Ford HD lights or a nockoff. The prices at my local dealer are not too bad. I think about a $180 each. I figure I can buy one at time. But, I am getting my tranny flushed this week.
Yes Pete, they are 'real' head & corners off a '02 F150 Harley-Davidson Edtion, the owner of which upgraded with Sylvania Xenarc (true HID) heads and some diamond clear corners . . . and whiule his HID offers incredible lighting performance, I think the HD heads & corners 'look' much better, I upgraded the performance a bit with sylvania silver star replacement bulbs.

$180 for a piece of molded plastic not too bad??? I hate to rain on your parade, but before the "swap craze" a couple years ago, Ford stealerships were charging $75 or less....which is still overpriced for what you're getting. This tells me that they are probably paying somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 each.
Jim, If you ever find yourself needing a set of like new head and corners for a '97-'03 F150, give me a call, I still have my oem units and will be willing to let them go for 1/2 what the dealer will charge you. They are asking way over $180 for the set.
I know it's a rip off, but I guess supply and demand. If you think these prices are bad wait till you buy stuff for your Sequoia. Toyotas are awesome trucks, but I traded in a 2000 4Runner 4x4 on my f-150 cause I was tired of Toyota and option pricing. Toyota quotes you one price for service then about double it when there done.
Well, we started the truck up on Friday to show the mechanic what it was doing and it started making a squelling noise. When we turned it off and looked under the truck, it was dumping oil from a place located near the remote oil filter. Any ideas??

Pete, initially it may have been a supply and demand thing, but how hard could it be to keep production of those headlights ramped-up for a little while and how much more are the raw materials? I think Ford saw an opportunity and was/is greedy. Several years ago, I wanted the Lightning headlights so badly and was on the fence for about a week too long (even at the original prices it was still a couple hundred $$ swap) when the prices across the country skyrocketed. There were a few guys on these Ford forums who lived in some smaller towns that could find the heads for the sub-$100 prices, but their supplies quickly depleted and the majority of stealerships jumped on the bandwagon. I called half dozen here in Houston and all were high, albeit one offered to sell for around $150 each.....he must have felt a little guilt. The clear corners were originally priced at around $30 and went to $80 or $90 each. By the time it was all said and done, it would cost between $500 and $600 for the swap.......I opted for other items.
I agree with the foreign prices, but I'm hoping that our Toyota performs like my wife's Rodeo that we got rid of after five years without spending one red cent on dealer maintenance and actually only one service under warranty (for a faulty cup holder) during the entire period. In fact, other than oil & filters, the only things I replaced on that vehicle were tires, wiper blades and a turn signal light bulb. Knock on wood we'll be that lucky again.
Do you know who has the best prices for the lights? Are the knochoff any good I see advertised in magazines?
You Sequoia will run forever if you keep up the maintainance.
I had a 95.5 Taco 4x4 5-speed, 98 Taco 4x4 auto, and a 2000 4Runner 4x4 and all were flawless and I wish I had my 4Runner. But, I love my FX and always had Fords before the Toyotas, but some of the current design flaws make me nervous.
(p.s. I lived many years in Houston and am there a lot)

Pete, there are a couple online oem suppliers (something like fordpartsonline.com, fordpartscheap.com, etc.) who have much better prices than local dealerships. Once you get part numbers, you can go to these sites and input to see if they stock them. I wouldn't go with the knockoffs. I've heard bad things about them. Most are made in places like China and Taiwan, which I don't trust their quality at all.
Good luck and let us know if you find any bargains.
stacy295, why doesn't your Uncle offer to look in to this for you??? seems even a cheby guy would have a much easier time diagnosing your problem 1st hand then would a bunch of Ford guys that are miles way . . . unless he is to busy fixin' chebies, lol
BTW Pete, I got my lights ('02 HD head & corners) from a fellow Virginian who installed Sylvania Xenarc true HID heads and some DiamondClear corners . . . paid WAY less then the cost being discussed here . . . find somebody who has done such a conversion and you'll likily find a great deal.
I don't understand why someone would mount the filter in a remote location. Why don;t you have someone put it back to stock and then start from there. This would probably fix it and if it didn't Ford might then help you with the diagnosis. Good luck.
PS: I had to chuckle when you used the word "Possessed" to describe your truck, I use this word for mine too.
I haven't let him know about the problem yet. I didn't want to just hand it off to him each time. It turns out that it looks like the Oil Pump or regulator is the problem. But they want to take hte oil pan off to make sure there is no other damage.

The problem is that it is in it's Stock location. It came from the factory in the remote location.
i own a 2001 ford f-350. at 7000 miles my tranny went out. They rebuilt it and 200 mile later it went out again. Ford then put in a reman tranny. And at 18000 miles it went out again. ford is now refusing to honor their warranty. They say i had a chip put in the truck. but they have no proof. what do you suggest i do?

You've gotta be doing something to kill that many trannies. The probability of three trannies failing before 20K miles is pretty infinitesimal.
Did you have a chip? If so, one of the chip's features is to raise the rev limiter and I've heard this information is "stored" for future reference. If this is the case, you might be busted and refusal of warranty is justified. I had a buddy who had a super radical chip and killed two or three trannies in no time. The dealership finally caught on and quit giving him new under warranty.
