Got everything fixed. No more coolant in the oil. Yesterday I drained the block and the radiator. I added 4 gallons of antifreeze and one gallon distilled water. Im sure it takes more, I think 8 gallons. I've driven 50-60 miles and coolant reservoir is still full. Gauge reads 1/4 way up on the cool side. I used my temp laser, block, water neck etc 160-170. Upper radiator hose is warm but lower radiator hose is cold?????

Good to hear you have that resolved! Bet that feels good. How cold is cold? Its flowing fine otherwise you would know it. Which degree thermostat is in it? Were you meaning to go with 80/20 on the mix?
Dont' forget to add in your additive as I'm guessing you did not go with fleet charge since you were mixing water. During the winter unloaded my truck will not run above the N on the gauge, and that sounds right about where you are.
He's sir it does feel good. Had me a little concerned. It's cool down here 40_50s right now. I used fleet charge concentrate. I was going for a 50/50 mix. Block and radiator has to take more than 5 gallons?????

It does, right around 32 qts, I have a feeling the bottom end was not completely drained. You will be surprised how much fluid is in the block if you do not pull your block heater when you drain it. Though you had the cooler off though? Did you flush again?
I did have it off twice. Filled it with water and drove for a few days to make sue all was fixed.
So after you filled it with water to check it did you complete drain it down again at the block heater? If you drained it at the hoses or radiator after filling with water to check, then there is still a couple gallons of that test water in there...
What year truck? Did you remove both block drains?
Wasn't there a difference in capacity between 94/5 and 96/7??? 22 vs 32 quarts? I can't remember but I thought I read that way back in the day somewhere. that would put him right around 5 gallons.
Well if their is air in the system it will work its way out. There is no reason to burp a 7.3 as they self bleed. In all the OBS trucks and SD I have ever worked own the fluid level dropped a qt or 2 after a heat cycle. If you had 3 gallons of liquid volume of air in the system you would have been overheating on your first drive, or likely at idle.
I swore it was around 32 qts. 7.7 gallons is what I am used to putting in on a dry block. 99 SDs went up about a half gallon was all. I could be wrong on the 22 vs 32, but I thought I had read that way back when, would have to be directly related to radiator capacity though as the 94 and early 95s I believe had the IDI radiator on them....

My '95 owner's manual says something like 22 or 26 quarts, but that's probably based on the old-style cooling system with the overflow rather than the reservoir/degas. Both our trucks have the degas system, and they're more like 8 gallons (32 qt).

Hopefullly you filled with 4 GALLONS of FleetCharge. Also, unless you removed both block drains, you left a LOT in the system. I found I had to remove both block drains, AND the bottom rad hose, since it's lower than the radiator drain, to get as much out of the system as possible.
Oh yeah - follow-up question - do you have a degas/reservoir bottle, or an overflow?

Umm???? What???? I have the clear jug mounted on the fender well
Yes sir, straight fleet charge. I think it's running to cold. Ever since I had it, 8 yrs now, it always ran with the needle in the middle. Right on the r on the gauge, noRmal, same place the oil pressure reads. Now it's on the o.
