I have a 94 donor with clean gas tanks. Google has not helped me out here. I am hoping I can get sending units that will fit these WITHOUT fuel pumps??? I attempting to put these tanks into an old project truck. I want to run the rear and auxillary in a 78 bronco frame. I am planning a manual fuel line selector and a switch to my gauge to show the appropriate tank. Will these newer sending units work properly with a 65'cluster (voltage wise)? I am more a fab guy than an electrician. Hopefully someone can set me straight or shut me down or point me the right direction before I get ahead of myself.
Removing the 35 years of nastiness. Working my way through the frame. Taking out crossmembers. Haven't decided on grade 8s or welding back in. Ditching the billy bob blocks for some lift springs that should work with the existing shocks. Just cleaning, upgrading, painting. I hate corrosion.
I really hate corrosion
Wire wheel (lightly- not to undo heat treating), strip, clean, etch, etching primer, topcoat. Did i mention i hate corrosion? This is my ocd therapy here.
The concern is resistance, and new senders won't work there.
My ('87) truck is the transition year and older senders don't work with my cluster.
If you do some sleuthing you'll find later senders read 16->157 ohms, and early ('70s ->'86) senders read 75->10 ohms.
Your older thermal gauge will read backwards and be pegged most of the time
....Working my way through the frame. Taking out crossmembers. Haven't decided on grade 8s or welding back in....
Most of the people who seem to know the most about it bolt crossmembers back in rather than weld. And that's even people who do a LOT of TIG welding and fabricating, so it's not because welding isn't available to them. Makes me think I'll go with grade 8 bolts any time I'm doing it.
Looks like I have stumbled across a fix. If I can get both the tanks in there, I'm gonna go for it. I believe they are a sponsor on here. I will let you guys know how it goes. Classic Instruments Store / SN34 It looks like a pretty neat unit.
Are you going to use their gauge or the stock gauge in your old cab?
My whole headache has been trying to use what I have to work with and have a functioning factory gauge. The cab is a custom so it has the extra stuff going on in the cluster instead of the centered circle gauge. I have been un-jimmying and cleaning for a while now. Hopefully I get to go for a ride soon. Fresh 460 with some juice, new tci tranny and a 2200 stall comverter.
