Anyone going to 5W-30?
There's a thread over on the 6.2L forum where Ford changed the recommended oil for the V8 from 5W-20 to 5W-30. From what I can tell, Ford is not offering much in the way of a reason for the change. And I'm almost certain that MY16 6.2L didn't see a design change to account for the different oil.
So I'm curious...since the V10 also came with 5W-20 recommendation, any owners here changing 5W-30?

I have been running 5w30 in my V10, my dads old V10 and a 4.6l for years now. My V10 got switched over a little after the warranty was over. Though the last few years I have been using 0w30 in the winter which has worked well for me.
Hopefully Ford comes out with a bulletin saying 5w30 is ok for all 6.2l years. I'll probably switch my dads 15' 6.2l over to 5w30 next change anyway since I do the oil changes and use 5w30 on all the other vehicles I change oil in.

Seems like some of the motor oil recommendations these days are selected just to eke out a slightly better fuel economy figure, from 16.02 mpg to 16.03, it would be nice to know the engineering side of things and let the operator decide for himself. 15w40 in everything is a good plan as far as it goes, but it's pretty thick for wintertime use in the north.

I've been kind of torn on whether to run 5W-20 or 5W-30 on mine. I think I've had both in there and never noticed any mileage difference. Since my wife's T&C uses 5W-20 though I just decided to run the same oil in both just for convenience sake. They both get 5W-20 Mobile One Synthetic. The oil in the 350 gets changed every 3,000-4,000 depending on how long it's been and the T&C when the light comes on, but not before 3,000 or after 6,000.

I have noticed a pretty good difference in mpg in my Sable. The 5w30 dropped it 2.0 to 2.5 mpg. It has the DOHC 3.0.
Always ran 5w20 in the truck and wife's 4.6 mounty.
The way I see it, these engines will by far outlast the bodies regardless of the oil. Might as well eke out the most mpg I can.

I just changed my 2009 F350 SD v10 over to Amsoil 5/30 and ran it to Florida and back to Chicago over Christmas/New Year holiday. Increased MPG to 12.5 on the road and did NOT use a whole qt of oil the entire trip.
I don't think the speedo went under 80/85 for too long both ways!! Ran like a dream!!

5/20 winter - 5/30 summer
I run 5/20 in the winter months and 5/30 for the rest of the year. I have no mileage reports as I did not do this to increase mileage but in hopes of reducing valvetrain noise and making myself feel better. One thing that I noticed when switching to 5/30 is very slight decrease in valvetrain noise. It was never overly loud or alarming before, just the average modular valvetrain noise. I thought I was maybe being biased as I was hoping for a reduction in valvetrain noise, but I can tell you that when I changed it to 5/20 for this winter, I am positive it has a hair more valvetrain noise than with the 5/30. I don't know if it really helps anything but it makes me feel better
