You said AOD i believe so not sure what you have. Here is how to tell Verify please
If the shifter has a P-R-N-OD-D-1 pattern, the transmission must be an AOD (applicable to 1980-1993 vehicles).
If a 1989-1993 truck has an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, then it is equipped with an E4OD transmission.
Based off that alone then yes I have the aod transmission. I let the vehicle get to engine operating temperature and then check transmission fluid and it is showing low could that be the cause in itself for why the vehicle is behaving in this manner

Absolutely. If you don't have any maintenance records showing trans fluid being changed, I would not hesitate to do it right away. Replace the filter also. The 4X4 uses a different filter than the 2WD. Don't use LV fluid .
I am just working on my truck as we speak and I was referencing the forum to try and figure out what some of these codes meant in my vehicle and when I read that I knew that to be wrong at least from everything I had learned so far on my own so I wanted to comment on it for future people such as myself looking back at these old posts old threads and see if I could possibly save somebody a little bit of time and hardship I do have a question for you I was driving to work one day and my truck was in here I went around a corner I went to accelerate out and my truck still showed being in gear but it was not catching I guess is the word is this what is commonly known as gear slippage if so what is the best way to test and/or diagnose this I had recently done the rear differential fluid but other than that no work has been done to transmission since I've owned it this truck only has a hundred and fifty five thousand on it and it is a 93 Ford F150 5.0 rear wheel drive any help is much appreciated
So what codes are you getting?
I have had similar issues with my transmission(E150 5,0EFI 1989) after a bigger engine overhaul some time ago, and I have been sure it is caused by the lack of mechanical adjustment procedure between the transmission and throtllebody. Now it has been getting worse, and now the engine-light is on constantly as it has never before lit up. I get codes 21, 24 and 53. (ECT and ACT out of range, and TPS over maximum voltage)
