2001 f 150 5.4 liter need some help with it being code pops up saying cylinder one misfire, I've charge coil and spark plug ran great for awhile now starting to act up again. Got coil check and says still good and look at spark plug and looks still in good shape being just replace two weeks ago. It's running fine but if it sits over night and I get in and start it and begins to shake when I but it in drive and don't even need to move the truck just place it in drive with foot on break. I drive it awhile and it stops and runs fine any ideas?
either the coil is still defective, or the rubber boot is bad allowing the spark to short out to the head, around the plug. Hole must be clean, no oil, no grease, no water, GOOD RUBBER BOOT, and good coil .... what plug model did you use ?
coil been replace and boot is clean, spark plug can't recall brand got at autozone, antifreeze is fine and cylinder one was a little dirty but not to bad. i replace coil and spark plug two weeks ago and it ran fine and just started to act up again few days ago, took coil off and had it tested again and it tested fine and took spark plug out and it was till clean and in good shape was looking for oil or anything around it and was pretty clean. since but everything back in it's been running fine again and no issues so going to drive a few days or so and see if it acts up again. cause only other thing i can think of is fuel injector needs to be clean or replace.
If you used a grease lubricant on the plug boot, you might have got a glob on the end that let the spark shoot out against the head... or there might be a slight flaw in the boot, etc... I have had "too much " dielectic grease cause a slight misfire like that. Use a very small amount and it must be the "right" kind of lube. ------ Good luck.
As of right now it's running great since I've taken coil off again and spark plug out and clean it real good and but back in. so now going to drive for awhile and see if it happens again and if so check plug to see if oil or anything around it cause could need a head gasket but figure it would act up in more then one cylinder if that was a case. Plus but some fuel injector cleaner in too, and on next oil charge use some oil treatment to clean everything. Truck seems to be in great shape for 205,000 miles but only had it for a few weeks now. when I test drive it ran real good but just few days later had that issue with coil but it tested bad. So replace it and spark plug being it look like it was in there for awhile. I'll keep updates after I drive it for awhile and see if issue returns.
used to have problems with my plug wires not staying snapped on good, at coil. would wiggle loose it seems like,, ,,dont get cheap china plug wires,,lesson learned,, don't know if that will help ya or not,,Todd
