Idi or turbo???

I have a 94 f250 with a 7.3... on the front of my trucks manual it says that my truck is a idi turbo diesel. People always tell me that it can not be an idi and turbo... i know for a fact it has a turbo. Is it possibly a universal manual for the idi and turbo?

The 7.3 IDI was available in both NA and Turbo versions. IDI simply stands for Indirect Injection, meaning the fuel is injected into a pre-combustion chamber, rather than directly into the combustion chamber.

They made IDI's with turbos in early '94. Those people don't know what they are talking about. Late '94 saw the change to the Powerstroke diesel.

powerstroke came in the manual shift only in 1994 model year, automatics were idi 7.3 turbo diesel. the powerstroke and idi 7.3 turbo had the same same nameplate on the fender in 1994 , the powerstroke nameplate showed up in 95 when the idi 7.3 turbo disappeared.

show us a pic of your engine and we will all agree on it

you do indeed have a ford factory IDI turbo diesel. you also need to stop listening to people that don't know the difference between a diesel and a gas engine.

these are forgotten about diesels.the older they get,the more forgotten and the smaller the crowd will become who remember or still own them.so it's to be expected many will be misinformed about them.

The IDI is by no means "forgotten about". There's a whole section devoted to them here on FTE, and on most of the other diesel-related forum sites. One forum site has more THREADS in the IDI section than POSTS in the PSD section. Modern diesel engines, ever-increasing in complexity, are fast approaching the point where DIY maintenance is impossible / irrelevant. This is bringing about a rebirth in popularity of simpler designs like the IDI (including the IDI-T).

Those who are misinformed about them have probably been misinformed since day one (or they weren't born yet).

all things are relative.yes, there are and will still be idi diesel trucks on the road for many, many, many years to come.many owners still have them as can be seen on online forums.
iv got no plans whatsoever to not be one of the fortunate ones anytime soon.
make no mistake however, fewer and fewer will be daily driven on the road as the years pass by.agree or not, said or not wont change this.just like all automobiles in history, the times change and modern engines and cars and trucks slowly replace the older vehicles.

iv never seen a 5th generation thunderbird in my life.the only way i knew about them was online.this is how i decided to buy one.why? because they're so dang old.as time went buy, more and more went to the crusher and or simply taken off the road as daily drivers.
(granted there were just a tiny of them made compared to idi diesel trucks so not the best example)

compared to modern power stroke diesel trucks out in the work place and on the roads the idi is long since forgotten.the rarity will continue on until hardly anyone knows about them.

before i bought my truck back in '09 i had never heard of the idi diesels myself.didn't know a thing about them.true, many did and do but all things relative.the majority do not and never will.
i value your opinion but we disagree.that's ok though.
