Steering Wheel steering controls

OK--first imagine this post after 5 hrs of yelling, cursing, banging my head, quadruple checking wiring all in 10 degree MT weather (43 in garage) being unable to get the companies website to address even a really stupid question like when do you turn the ignition on, the radio on, dadadada. Now-with that off my chest: I put in a Kenwood DDX9702S head unit in and an infinity subwoofer and all new infinity speakers. Everything works great just like its supposed to EXCEPT no steering controls. After reading the fine print in the Kenwood manual that an "exclusive remote adapter" must be used to wire this feature. I order everyone's favorite ASWC-1--simple-right--NNNOOOOOOOOOOO! It goes through, identifies the radio, proper flashes and colors etc but in the end it just flashes red and amber. The only button that would ever work is the Vol down bottom. After 12 emails, scrrew it-I sent it back. I get a PAC SWI-C5. Simple right--NNNOOOOOOOO! I go through my radio wiring diagrams and match there wiring connections specific for the 2005 Excursion. I hook it up on automatic app--->"unrecognized radio type"--geeeezzzz! Next I go straight to the manual program. I set the dip switches as per instructions and youtube rah rah video and it's supposed to "just work" After changing variable I can think of, best I can do is get the Volume down button to work. Comments, suggestions, insight, painless suicide techniques will all be appreciated
