Did they make different diameter water pump and crankshaft pulleys for different years? I got a reman 81 351w and a milodon high vol alum water pump. The problem is that the water pump pulley won't go on the water pump because it has no room over the crank pulley. The water pump bolted on fine. I suspect that the motor I pulled was not the original and may have been an older motor. Any suggestions?
There are difenately different sizes of pulleys for crank, water pump, and alternators. I don't see how the high volume water pump itself could have anything to do with this problem as you should still be using the same pulley from before.
Two possibilities come to mind. First research your vehicle, mabey by VIN through the dealer, to find out what is supposed to be there. The other is to get a set of aftermarket pulleys such as the multitude of underdrive pulleys available.
Good luck.
Thanks, I bought a aluminum regular volume water pump from NAPA, and everything bolted on fine. The Milodon must have been wrong from the factory. Even the bolt pattern for the pulley was wrong
