Truck is a 1975 F250 Highboy, bone stock with a 360 and a C6 auto trans; truck has only 60K original miles and runs/shifts perfect
Its developed a pretty good size transmission fluid leak between the engine block and the transmission itself, have confirmed its tranny fluid and not oil(rear main seal).
Thinking its a pump seal or something else in the front of the tranny
Is this the time to have the whole transmission pulled and rebuilt/resealed or is a pump seal by itself possible?
How much $$ should a reseal versus a stock rebuild set me back?
This was a common problem with C6s. More than likely it's not the input shaft seal but the pump seal itself. This can be replaced without tearing down the transmission.
If the tranny is working okay, I would just pull the transmission and replace the front pump seal and the input shaft seal.
What kind of labor effort(read $$) should I expect to have this done?
Thanks
Tbruz
I really can't say, I usually do the work myself. It's not very complicated. You have to pull the tranny. Slide the torque converter off, pull the input shaft out, remove the pump, replace the pump seal. Reinstall the pump, knock out the torque converter seal and replace. Then reinstall the torque converter and reinstall the tranny.
