Well I am definitely going with non-greasable when I do them. These theories seem to make sense to me plus it's one less thing to worry about lubing...aaannnnddd my oil cooler started leaking today. What's so odd is that I have been thinking about it for the last few weeks. Premonition? LOL

I had a cap spinning in a middle yoke. My carrier bearing was crusty as well. I pulled the assembly and had my driveline all new ujoints, and what would you know? The spicer joints actually were tight in the yoke I thought for sure was junk. My tight a$$ buddy bought crap Chinese joints.
After all that and a rebalance and it's soooo good!
Do it!

i average around 150 to 175k miles on universals. the rear joint is always the first one to go. and when the rear starts making noise or vibrating, i replace them all.

Yikes! Yeah, Spicer non-greaseables will be the ones I go with.

This has been my experience as well Tom. I crawled under the truck yesterday after doing my wheel bearings. They all look good and are tight. I may just go with it. I have to see how much time I have before we head out. I have 2 weeks and still working, not to mention all of the other things to get ready.
