Hey everyone
I am feeling blue today. My excursion now has 254000 miles on it. It had 193000 when I originally did the head gaskets..
The gaskets are gone again. What happened you ask?
Well I don't know. One of those what came first the egg or the chicken.
I had a heater core connector break off near the fire wall. And then the truck overheated.
Could be that the connector broke due to a over pressurized cooling system from a small gasket leak or a old connector that finally gave and causing overheat and gasket failure.
never the less gonna take a few days and regroup.
but the good news is I got to 250000!!!. And there is no coolant in the oil. So maybe I could do the heads again and get another 50k?!!!
Getting only 60K out of a set of gaskets seems off for sure. I haven’t read the rest of the thread....what motor? Did you have everything checked for cracks and flatness the last time? Quality gaskets?
I'd say then it's likely that the connector broke from being brittle and then you overheated and boom. Unfortunately you'll have to go through the same process again. Not fun at all for sure.
Curious what you would recommend for a manual-I have an oil leak on my head from the back of the block and i'm going to have to pull the heads to replace the gaskets.
254000, I think it's time for a new long block. Mine had 220k on it, and suffered from a bad spark plug hole. So I decided give it a new engine. A tiny fraction of the cost of a new truck. Given that you can't get a new Ex and their values are beginning to spike it's well worth it. Consider that you've overheated that block twice now.

I didn't use a manual. Just Google some stuff and some utube videos.
It wasn't that difficult if you have some mechanical inclination.. label the parts and take pictures..
Also maybe you have a valve cover leak. Maybe start by retorqueing the valve cover bolts. Cleaning the block and rechecked for the leak. Also check your pvc hoses and connections.
how bad is the leak?? Maybe better to live with a leak then doing a head gasket job if ots a small leak.

Yes I agree, on both points.. It is definitely time to do something about this 250000 plus motor.
I am exploring options..
And those options don't include giving up my ex. Which is still the best suv on the market.
