the reason i asked is because i have locked myself out of the 88 more times than i would like to admit. if it only had one key like every other vehicle i own i would be a very happy camper.

Get all the fords rekeyed to the same key. Same for the locks. Then you only need 2 keys for ALL the fords

One key still won't keep you from locking the key in it.
It isn't smart enough (like my Taurus is) to sense that the key is still in the ignition and not let you lock the door.
i do not lock the key in the truck. the ignition key is in my pocket. the door key is usually at home though.
the 88 is the only vehicle i own that uses a different door ignition key setup.
I still don't understand why you can't use this thing called a key ring and keep the two keys together. So the truck uses two keys and your other vehicles only use one. Not sure why that is such a big deal. I've had five vehicles that used two keys. The keys are small. The single key with built in remote on new vehicles is bigger than the two truck keys together.
Since I started this post I have gotten lots of good pointers. Re-coding the locks was the best one I thought but couldn't get a lock smith that would do it. So I ordered the lock set today! After not being able to get into the truck for almost 2 days it was the last straw! It had to be done! I will still have one key too! The swap is supposed to be an easy one I guess I'll find out!!

What a shame. You OVER spent on aftermarket parts when OEM ones are cheaper and better quality
That's the problem with waiting and talking to too many. No matter how much you look there's always a better deal after the fact. At this point it's more getting into the truck and not the money. If they fail sooner than later I'll follow your lead!

I gave you the link to the OEM ford ones and I think Subford did too

Then buy a hideakey. I keep one on the old fords since they are both manual locks and although I have never locked the keys in my dad did it enough times to learn to keep one on all his vehicles. Also since these trucks don't have protect shields over the rods in the door like never vechicles you can still use a slim jim on these trucks. Have a couple in the garage if you need one. I pay for AAA and have the hideakey so no worries for me.
(buy on amazon. I don't know why the amazon link I copied on here is going to rokutan) it will hold more than 1-2 keys if need be and has been on one of my trucks a few years now and has not moved with no additional tape or anything needed to hold in place. That truck doesn't off road or see violent hits though.

This is not a bad ideal actually. I might do this to the bronco and 350 but what about the tailgate on the bronco? Doesn't it use a different size key? When I bought that 93 bronco it came with the same key for doors and ignition but it has a different round key for the tailgate. Did someone replace the ignition and door cylinders you think? For that matter it came with 3 keys all different lengths. Still have not figured out what the 3rd key is for. Maybe the glovebox but I thought that used the door key??
Flip side is if someone steals or comes across my keys they will have keys to both trucks since I keep them on seperate key rings now.

So confused now.
Bronco uses the old style round key on the tailgate from 78-96

Looking back I see you did. I'll let you say "I told you so". I guess I was so disgusted with not being able to get into the truck I just picked the first thing I saw. They have a warranty so I'm not too concerned. If they are that bad when I get them I'll return them and go your way.

Did they ship already? Maybe you can stop the order
